Louisiana's responsibility
What kind of show would this be on a radio talk show?
Wandering Thoughts:
The seditious liberal Democrats are calling the race card and turning up the hatred of people toward the Republican Party. They are determined to split this country in two while pointing toward Bush as the culprit. These are Democrats that are yelling fire in a burning building by inciting racial discord to gain power. Some of the rhetoric I've heard is more hate enticing than I've heard since the 60's. Dean as chairman of the DNC has shown himself to be every bit as incompetent as “Brownie” and is possibly placing more innocent people at risk because of racial violence he might help form. I wonder what Abraham Lincoln would have done to those type of leaders when a country is at war.
We’re fighting for our lives in Iraq and they keep bringing up meaningless discord that diverts this country’s view. Of course we must deal with the mistakes made that brought about this tragedy in the Big Easy. We must not add to it the inciting of racial tensions when we are at war. I think Abraham Lincoln dealt rather sharply with the Deans and the Hillary’s of those times. Weren’t they accused of sedition?
I’ve heard liberals decry the Bush apologists. Those that do not see mistakes made because of racism are labeled Bush apologists. Those that say Louisiana has had 40 years since Hurricane Betsy to build levees are labeled Bush apologists. Those that would rather concentrate on how boondoggles caused the deaths in New Orleans are called Bush apologists. These liberals are saying they are sick of the Bush apologists.
Those that recognize the above truths are not getting tired of it. We’re just supplying a more balanced view than mainstream media and the Democratic leadership.
FEMA, should be there for the more long term aid. The Federal Government should not be relied upon to do what the locals can do more quickly and more efficiently. FEMA should never be the one to deny or accept local aid while there is still capable local authority. The local people should be in charge. So too, they should be held responsible.
FEMA is there to assist once the local plans have been carried out.
See if you can get some calls on these ideas?
Or maybe the same below explained differently.
We have screamers, weepers and angst.
We may come up with mechanics and protocols that were done or left undone that prolonged the misery of the survivors in Louisiana and Mississippi.
The primary effort should be toward rectifying the institutional failures that occurred for the past 40 years. If these are corrected too, then the need for FEMA would not be in any way critical the survival of those left in a hurricanes wake.
Our sense of history needs to go back further than this administration. Institutional entrenched federal aid for everything and everybody is not seen as a major factor. Big Government has been propagated on the American people for 40 years.
Now the Democrats, who dogmatically preach they are the party of reform, and Republicans are interested only in protecting entrenched interests, find themselves facing the consequences of their own entrenched interest “Big Government”. This would take new eyes by the Democratic Party but instead we get rhetoric that could spawn racial violence.
Facts:
40 years is more than enough time for Louisiana to build a system of levees that would withstand a Category 5 hurricane. For those that won’t look back further than 2000, it was Hurricane Betsy that hit New Orleans 40 years ago. If the state governments had done their jobs levees would have been built and we would not be having this much strife and calls for investigation. Louisiana and her citizens would have “taken care of business”. It is their business primarily to defend each other from this type of catastrophe. These are the very responsibilities they currently erroneously demand of FEMA.
Since Bush has been President the federal government has sent 1.9 billion dollars to Louisiana Corps of Engineers. Of course those with a predisposition to hate Bush will bring up our monies spent on Homeland Security and the Iraq war. They don’t mention the early and late 90’s where billions more were sent. Where was the money spent? Evidently a great deal that had nothing to do with levee flood control. Much was spent expanding canal size to accommodate barge traffic.
Any mention of Louisiana’s responsibility in all of this will be summarily dismissed as it has been since the levees broke and will be described by the Democrats as Republicans trying to “shift the blame”.
As I watched angry victims scream into the camera about Bush being so insensitive to their needs I saw a mentality that is so distant from our founders. Not one of the survivors interviewed blamed their Louisiana government.
Why wasn’t the state guard there the day after? There was plenty of National Guard available. Why, after 40 years, weren’t the levees fortified to withstand a Category 5 sea surge? Why weren’t the school buses used to help evacuate instead of standing submerged by flood waters? Where was the State Highway Patrol? Why weren’t ‘civilians’ allowed to help? Maybe one of the core problems is we weaken only ourselves if we depend on the federal government to the extent we do.
We have seen the seedy side of Social Welfare programs in the attitudes of those victims lashing out at Uncle Sam where, if they had not been drugged by liberal class warfare rhetoric, they would be looking at themselves, their mayor and state government. I witnessed an interview where a critic of the Bush administration said the clothes given to the evacuees were ill fitting and were meant to fit “white” people. The government wasn’t supplying hair ‘perm’ which showed a lack of sensitivity toward blacks.
This attitude reflects the institutionalized socialist mentality that currently permeates this country. These people have been taught to feel entitled. Possibly that is one reason they stayed or did not have the where with all to ‘take’ responsibility for their own safety.
So the seditious Democrats are still making tempest in a teapot at the most inappropriate time. During time of war they are publicly calling our President racist because the federal government did not respond as “first responders”.
This approach is in complete contradiction to common sense where the people on the scene and know the “lay of the land” are the first responders.
Maybe its time for the liberals to realize Louisiana got caught with her pants down and Congress isn’t going to fix it for them, they have to do it themselves, just like the 80% that evacuated. Those that couldn’t should have been given a plan by the Mayor and there should have been annual practices for flooding carried out by his office. This requires more wisdom evidently than the current Mayor has. It requires more wisdom that the people of Louisiana have. But they are not alone. From all the hatred being planted, it seems this requires more wisdom than the liberals or conservatives have.
